What Forever changed
Key differences from Classic
Four rulesets (Normal, PvP, RP, Hardcore later), each one shared 'mega-realm' per region. Two-part character names unique per region. Language-preference matchmaking. No cross-faction groups; no grouping across rulesets.
Cap stays at 60; progression via stories, reputations and raid tiers. No level scaling, no flying. No gear resets planned.
Collections and Legacy points are shared across Normal, PvP and RP. Hardcore is sealed (nothing carries in; dead characters can transfer out).
New quests across 1-60; four new zones (Zephras Isle, Riverglades, Mount Hyjal, Shen'dralas) and expanded Wetlands, Desolace, Azshara and Dalaran.
Design target: a solo creature takes 10-15 seconds to kill; crowd control matters in dungeons; tanks hold 3-4 enemies, not a room.
Mob XP inside dungeons is down sharply while first-clear quest XP is up; repeated runs are worth little. The 1 Oct build halved dungeon-quest XP beyond a normal quest.
Stormwind-Auberdine, Menethil-Southshore, Menethil-Auberdine, Tanaris-Steamwheedle.
Same shape (3 trees, 7 rows, 51 points) with a new 1-point milestone talent at 16 points. Weapon specialization talents consolidated (e.g. Weaponmaster, Hack and Slash). Several Classic talents went baseline; later-expansion spells return as talents.
Dual spec available at level 40 from class trainers; each spec has its own respec fee.
Damage-over-time effects can now critically strike for most classes.
Spell, melee and ranged hit merged into one hit stat; crit merged the same way.
Bonus healing carries one-third of its value as spell damage; caster weapons grant spell damage from about level 10.
New stat that reduces target parry/dodge; environment- and creature-type effects (Woodlands, Mountains, Deserts) make trinkets situational.
Unique dungeon boss drops are at least blue quality; set bonuses improved; quest rewards widened across classes/roles; world-drop epics reworked with hundreds of rare-creature drops.
Account-wide Legacy points from 65 challenges; 16 spendable per character in Adventure, Professions and Resourcefulness trees; cosmetic rewards at 15/25/40/55 points.
600+ new recipes; every profession gets a passive bonus and three camp objects; gathering specializations; enchanters get ring/staff enchants; tailors get embroidery; cooking food gives stats plus XP.
Campfires are social rest points with vendors, repairs and profession workspaces; camp objects give one-hour buffs that compete with class buffs.
Every race has 2 active + 2 passive racials tuned for comparable offensive value; weapon-skill racials removed (15 Oct build).
Gnome Priest, Human Hunter, Dwarf Shaman, Orc Mage, Troll Warlock, Undead Paladin (Undead Paladin story starts at Banderian Keep, Tirisfal, level 10).
New neutral elven race; pick Horde (Windshaper, can be Shaman) or Alliance (High Order, can be Mage); Warrior/Hunter/Rogue/Druid both sides. Requires the Skyborne Heroic Pack or higher.
Hall of Thanes, Ruins of Lordaeron, Excavation Site: Wetlands, City of Dalaran, The Drowned City, Krol'dok Stronghold, Alcaz Prison, Blackmaw Hold, Shaper's Terrace. Single difficulty everywhere; no Dungeon Finder teleport; meeting stones do not summon.
Every tier gets a 10 and a 20 player raid; Onyxia's Lair at 40 for launch. No flex raiding. Raids unlock 9 Dec 2026.
Honor and Rank Points are separate; ranks bought with Rank Points (no weekly standing formula); 14 ranks kept, 5 of them pay a Legacy Point. New 15v15 battleground Darkspear Islands. No rated PvP.
Gold-DKP loot runs are banned.
Addons use the modern API with combat restrictions; built-in damage meter, Cooldown Manager (off by default) and swing timer; official gamepad support.
Swap between original and HD character models; new lighting, volumetric fog, water and terrain shadows; transmog is opt-in (Classic Mode turns it off).
